We traveled to Austria for Christmas 2005.  Salzburg was the first stop, to visit friends and the Christmas Market, and then to Germany for a 50th birthday party, and finally to Berwang in the Tirol for a ski holiday.  While we were in Salzburg the children took the train to Vienna (3 hours!) by themselves to visit with friends and walk around Christmas Vienna.  Here is a picture of Vienna this Christmas :
